So the NDA has been lifted. Anyone else doing the rounds in the beta?
Up till now I feel I have been quite surprised. Been playing for a few days now and I must say that, while there is a long long long way to go before the game is 'finished' what there is will serve as a very good foundation for what can turn out to be a good mmorpg.

Frankly the game is good, but it needs a lot o optimisation since it run s quite jerkily. It was a common complaint by most people playing it. Also there were quite a lot of bugs considering the game was due for launch. Otherwise it is a very good game with a strong foundation but it does not stand next to WoW's greatness. Bottom line is: if you got tired of WoW big time and want to try something else go ahead. If you have not experienced WoW properly then that is the only game you need. Its cheaper than Vanguard too.

Vanguard is a cross between WoW and Eq2. Takes good elements from both games. Overall I would say better than EQ2 because it is more solo friendly. Then again the last expansion for EQ2 (Echoes of Faydwer) apparently improved the solo game a lot. Artitistically it is more akin to EQ2 but I preferred Vanguard's player models by far. My advice would be to allow a good two months before you attempt to play it so they can polish the game a bit.
My REAL advice would be to drop your WoW hate and join the 8 million phenomenon. I was sceptic about WoW too if you recall...

Bottom line is I could play Vanguard for free but most of the time I still chose to play WoW. The bugs and poor performance kept me away mostly. They reduced many of the bugs (although a lot are still present) and up to the end of the beta the performance issues where still an issue. But, as I said earlier, I was surprised at how good it was. There is a very good base for a game and if they can care for it I am sure it will turn out to be a contender. Much better than EQ2 overall. Not as polished as WoW. (hint hint ;) )
Pity you did not tell me before... I could have shared my beta key with you.
