I was wondering on buying a good surround system 5.1 (i will lately buy an xfi as well to help with the sound), and i was thinking about the following

LOGITECH Z-5500 5.1 DIGITAL 500WATT RMS COMPUTER SPEAKER SYSTEM

any one ever tried them or has a better option (dont want to spend more then lm150 or at least something at that range)

I will be using the surround mostly for gaming and movies (War movies mostly where bullets fly XD)

The set is pretty amazing.. when connected via optical/coaxial for movies they are easily the bst set you can get for that price range.. theyre quite decent for music as well, espcially trance & the likes.. unfortunately they are not that good with metal music but apart from that they rock.. the sub is a real monster and i feel i have to repeat they are GREAT for movies

well music is not actual a priority, so if it is good for movies and games its fine for me

tbh i think those speakers being digital would be an overkill for an x-fi. An x-fi prefers analogue sets (for example gigaworks, or megaworks) since an x-fi takes care of everything, including the so called dd, dts, thx and so on.

Although the 5500s (having a digital decoder) can be used with consoles and standalone dvd/bluray/hddvd players with ease

I own a set, with an x-fi platinum and theyre pretty amazing like that as well for the following reasons:

1) they can be connected with an analogue pass through hence the creative card still does all the decoding and they just play the sound. the optical & coaxial can then be used for ps3 & xbox ;)

2) the x-fi can process the crystalizer eax etc and output it via the optical toslink if u look around meaning they can be connected via digital without sacrifying all the x-fi's processing. the gigaworks 7.1 for example, dont feature the decoder which is always nice to have considred u can not use it if u like and are more expensive ..tbh i wasnt as impressed for movies as well with them the z-5500 just reproduce movie soundtracks so accurately its scary especially for a medium sized room
