Nice shots - I know this might sound stupid but, that is the moon right?

Did you ever see satellites or I'm asking too much?

Kensci
20-10-2007, 09:00 PM
yes it is the moon :)

Never saw satellites with the telly. Only with Bino. Satellites might be a bit difficult to see with telescope since they can only be visible for a few seconds or a bit more. What you can is is the IIS maybe... but still I think it is hard to see since it moves at 27,000 km/h:p

Hah! 8" me 10" :p nice pics there mate, are you going at ahrax to watch the leonids?
me used to be like you, built my own 10", bought an SLR and loads and loads of books... but found no help/support/interest in cotinueing on the subject here at malta and slowly that hobby died away... :'(

keep it up mate!

Hehe, maybe, depends how the weather will be on that particular date, next will be the Orionids but still need to read about them.

I am in the Maltese community and in a British forum. Whenever I need help I ask them both and always got the necessary information.

Till now I always used the telescope at home and once I went behind golden sands hotel but that hotel produces too much light pollution. When I make the telescope database work i will try to go dingli manikata etc

The Maltastro is defenetly the most booring community ever to be formed on this island, i rember them 5 faces whic you always saw 6yrs ago. this year i went at ahrax to watch the perseids. they where still the frikin 5 same faces and all do is talk & talk...

Frodo I think astronomy is a hobby to pass sometime alone. So the community is really not important at this point. If you need some help etc... I ask in the forums above. I am still a beginner and they are very helpful.

bhala activties ftit jamlu awn malta. meta jkunu ha nitilaw ximkien nejdilkom :) supost daqt anna nitilaw ximkien ax siehbi andu jasalu il 14"

edit: If you have bino you will see a lot of things like clusters of stars! So if you have one use it. With a bino 10x50 you can see the 4 moons of Juptier. You can see andromeda galaxy (you see it as a cloud) which is 3.2 million light years away, yet the closest galaxy to our milky way. and much more. The interesting part is the challenge to find something :)

This is my equipment, Home made 10" F4.5 Newtonian Refractor - all in wood, Mirrors bought for Antares, Canada for lm140 (Primary Mirror, Secondary Mirror, Focuser and 40mm Finder scope)

Telescope (http://img265.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture0776zi0.jpg)

Shot from the focuser without eyepeice. Not aligned lol!

Mirror shot (http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture0778dm6.jpg)

the Mirror and The Mirror cell. The mirror cell made thank to my bro!

Mirror (http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture0779br6.jpg)

Mirror Cell (http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture0781hu5.jpg)

The focuser, Finder and the Eyepieces, one 8mm one 20mm. They're Konus, from a 3" telescope. Never got to chance to buy a real one! :(

Secondary Mirror House (http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture0782zp0.jpg)

Kensci

Nicely built :)

http://www.celestron.com/c2/product.php?CatID=13&ProdID=416 I got this one, all the details are on the website ;) I bought a focal reducer to reduce f11 to f 6. and a 40mm eyepiece. I will buy a light pollution filter anytime soon.
