Will a 650W psu be enough for a quadcore and 8800 ???
At first I thought it wasnt but after some browsing I found some complete systems with similar specs.

as far as i know 600 is the bare minimum for such a system - but it would ahve to be a GOOD 600W PSU, i'd reccomend one by Coolermaster - it is very energy efficient and even though its rated to 600W it max is over 700W so it should have some leeway.
Although probably something in the 700w region might bge a safer bet especially if you have a lot of hdds/fans/lights etc

I have a 670W Hiper and i'm pretty pleased with it. Never had any problems with my Quad core and 8800 ;)

a good 600 watt is more then enough... especially if your going to go for an 8800GT..

i would rather go for a heigher wattage psu (850w or more ) just in case you might want to upgrade your vga in the future . it might sound funny now but in 2 yrs tme you might think otherwise .
when my 9800pro decided to die i was going to buy the ATi X1950XT AGP but i was told that it needs a minimum of 500w (full load) psu which i dont have and i wasnt going to buy another PSU either .

ux 850 watt.....
this whole power craze is useless, do yourself and the environment a favour dont buy high wattage PSU for nothing cuz in the end even with an 8800GTX the system doens tull more then 350watt at load, the only thing the graphics card really wants is a good amperage on the 12 volt line.

a 750W with 4 12V rails should be enough for any PC in the world, and from a good brand such as Thermaltake or Coolermaster

billi it is an 850w psu doesnt mean it consumes 850w.
jek il hardwareikollu bzonn 500w thats the amount that the psu will be dissipating.
again the max rated wattage is the input , output would be less.
therefore if you buy a good one, the input and output would be closer, more stable and also have less heat loss.

usually large units have less efficiency due to the heat increase within the limited space..
having an 850watt supply for an application of 400 is still a waste as internal components are still being used..(that's why their called switched mode power supplies IE they need a load).
as a matter of fact one should want to strike a balance not buy an 850watt for a 350 watt load, good supplies with lower watt ages will have a better efficiency and will waste less..
and to sort it out if the PSU is rated 800W and the components need 350W the psu will not pull just 350W off the wall...
