i have a similar system but with an Asus board and PC2-8500 ram (1066MHz), i took it up to around 3.5 GHz and it was stable enough.

They're really flexible cos the multiplier can be varied from 6x - 9x. Leaving a high multiplier is desirable though as a low multiplier affects performance on the Northbridge apparently.

I found the best OC for my system to be 433MHz x 7 (3.0GHz) and 433MHz x 8 (3.5Ghz). On 3.5GHz temps were about 48/48/44/44 with an OCZ Vindicator cooler. Be careful cos the quads have quite a low temp threshold, around 62 degrees, and that's easily reachable when playing games if you're overclocking over 3.0GHz.

personally i would never consider overclocking as it reduces the cpu's lifetime....even if u cool it

were did you get that from?

KD your E6600 shud do just fine dude, u shud do 300fsb no problem with stock voltages and thats good..

with an E6400 (2.3ghz) ive taken it to 400+ FSB no problems.. though i leave it at 2.8ghz...

ah it's an E6600 not a quad, sorry.. though they should overclock just as well. Buy a quad next time :p

overclocking (actually heat) does reduce the lifetime of a CPU.. say from 10 years to 8 years.. ZOMG eh :p

e6600 has multiplier locked afaik, only extreme edition has unlocke dmultiplier, but still easy to reach 3.0ghz

multipliers are unlocked downwards...

overclocking does not reduce lifetime, usually overvoltage (which is a possible overclocking technique) or overclocking to extreme conditions (outside mechanical specifications).

overclocking as such doesnt effect life time imma lol as if ur gonna keep ur cpu 4 over 5yrs haha well thats me :p.... tho if ya ply wit voltages then yea u do suck the lifeout...

ty peeps 4 ur info :)

well for 5 hrs hehe.. but joking aside high voltages can kill cpus pretty fast..

A modest overclock can be kept permanently
