I personally find play.com to be excellent. I've never lost a game sent from them so far, but I won't argue with Avaloner's statement. I've heard people complain that amazon has the same problem, in contrast to what G-lock said, so we can never know for sure...

6.50 dats LM3.00
correction its was more like 5-6 days but it also depends on other stuff.
example. if ur item has d highest priority of all d products w8ing to go on d flight den urs goes first. and also number of flights, number of items accuatly w8 to go 2 d same destintaion.

Well it is not a question of things arriving late... that is expected at times. It's how they handled the case that leaves a lot to be desired. I had to call them overseas but still got nowhere. They always say they will follow it but never do..

Well, that's not exactly play.com's fault, now is it? you can't expect them to afford giving your order first class services when you don't pay for it, and then it's all down to the postage handlers to deal with it. If you don't like the service, just go with another site with which they let you pay for the postage to get a better service.

It IS play.com's fault if I send them an e-mail and do not get a reply! It IS play.com's fault if, after I call them, they promise me they will send me an e-mail which never arrives. I will go to another site, but first I want the things I paid for!

Ah. You didn't mention that pointedly.. I guess all online stores tend to pick the odd customer to give some shit to. I've heard similar stories about amazon and others. I suppose it's also down to a bit of luck, in the end.

I don't like Play.com.

Are these problems only associated with Play.com? Cause it certainly seems so. I was promised a replacement which was, alledgedly, sent on the 9th of November. To date I have not recieved it. I am starting to wonder whose fault it is. Is it Maltapost or is it the mailing practices of Play.com? Anyone had any trouble recieving packages from other sources?

Unfortunately it's hard to tell. As well as that, I've had an order eaten by amazon once as well, so seeing as maltapost is the common factor, I think we can boil it down to being our postal system that needs fixing.

Avaloner
19-11-2004, 08:37 PM
Also, I have been ordering online for almost 2 years, and I must say that this problem has only cropped up in the recent 6-8 months! I must say that since Maltpost got privatised there was a visible deterioration to the service.

Well to investigate more into my situation i called up Maltapost which took me 30mins to get through (go figure). When i did and ask about the orders she told me that there are some problems in the uk. She spoke about not all packages are being sent some will take time. Though its funny when u have a friend who lives 100m away from you....orders it a day before u and gets the order.....and me twice in a row....i spent about lm50 on the games.....i hope i didnt flush them down the loo

Just for reference and information, I recently found a pretty good american site that delivers to malta. It's amazingly good if you want to order Gameboy Advance games (like I do) since they don't use any regional lockouts. (and everything is goddamn cheap too!)

They also offer the option of paying a miniscule amount for postage and getting it sent at low priority, or paying just a little more to have it sent express. This deserves two thumbs up, by far.

The site is www.gamesuniverse.com if anybody's interested.

I dont buy much from the U.S only if the game wont hit europe for a month or so and when i do i use UPS 4-5days delivery to your door 100% insurance wish PLAY (wankers) could do that :bang:

I actually use it for just that - games that won't be coming to europe for a while or not at all. and as i already said, GBA games are obscenely cheap from there (like Lm10 a cartridge... you can get 3 for the price they sell here.), so that's another thing to check out.

If Play are such a hassle, use another site that offers insurance. simple as that.

No ... PLC (Maltapost) employees need a good foot up their ars and a smak in thier head to make them concentrate more on their work and less on their thoughts.

Just to let everyone know... if you order something at totally it ammounts to 8 items or more from Play.com they will keep all your stuff and will require you to phone them and verify over the phone that it is really you who is buying the stuff.

My friend just got stuck a good collection of DVDs at Play.com for over 2weeks lol.

Games retail veteran Special Reserve has gone into liquidation after almost 20 years in the industry.
It means that the companys eight stores, Internet business and mail order service has been closed with immediate effect, leaving 45 staff at its Sawbridgeworth head office redundant.

Cliff Rainbird, former buyer and son of founder Tony Rainbird, told MCV: Weve tried to sell it on, and we did have an offer. But it fell through at the last minute, so we had no other option but to close.

Rainbird explained that the business, which has been running since the late 80s, is another casualty of the super-competitive retail climate: The margins have been taken out of games, and the Internet is so competitive it has been very difficult over the last few years. It doesnt help that the supermarkets have come in selling new releases at 29.99 either.
email the authoremail a friend

PS: Please try to stay on topic. Start a new thread to discuss the PSP (which sucks by the way). Tried splitting the thread and moving all unrelatred PSP discussions in a different thread but the posts seem to have disappeared!

I have always ordered from Play.com and find it reliable with a delivery time of 1 week (max). The only time that a game didn`t arrive I emailed them and they sent me a replacement.
I also find some Hong Kong sellers on ebay very reliable and way much cheaper than any online store :P

I did buy from cduniverse many times and I must say that they have quite a good service and are pretty cheap. Postage takes time though since its US based. Also ordered from play-asia (http://www.play-asia.com/) and got the game correct.

For second hand games I recently made use of The Game Collection (http://www.thegamecollection.net/) (UK based). They have some pretty decent offers although postage is not free. I got Bioshock for 17 sterling (Lm9.25) - this price including postage which is 5 sterling (lm2.75). It was used but in very good condition.
