View Full Version : Transformers The Movie

Well i dont know how much many of you remember the true glory of this cartoon/toy series. (i am still mad about it)

imo this series was spoiled when they kept on going with it, trying to squeeze everything they could from it. The nice this is that the movie will be situated around transformers golden era 1 that is 1984 - 1986 characters/storyline etc... \m/

i was wondering around the net and i found this:

As of August 2004, Dreamworks Pictures has announced plans to produce a live-action/cgi feature film of "The Transformers" sometime in 2006. Dreamworks recently beat out New Line in a bidding war for the rights to the franchise. There is little known about the project as of yet. Spielberg has expressed interest in directing it himself, and Tom DeSanto ("X-Men," "X-2") is currently listed as a producer and writer. It's hard to imagine what it will look like when a realistic-looking Porsche converts into a 15-foot-tall talking robot, but if anyone can pull it off Spielberg can.

It really flips me up and i cant wait to go into cinema 16 to see it.

I mostly like Ratchet's, Optimus' and Iron Hide's, Blackout's and Bonecrusher's Transformer mode.

Apparti c-cajkt I have a lot of faith that this movie will be very good. Not one of the best in history but prolly one of the best of 2007.

I agree a lot on a few points but we have to consider some things. Megatron in all the serieses of transformers.. well always looked puny compared to the other Decepticons.

Generation 1: Gun, Later Cannon (Galvatron)
Generation 2: A Tank
Beastwars/Beastmachines: T-Rex, Later Dragon (l'uniki Transformations tal-ostja li kelhu imo)
Robots In Disguise: Something between a jet/dragon. Looked cheap ass.
Armada: Again Tank
Energon: Jet
Cybertron: A car that resembles the Batmobile (WTF!!!)

Seriously for some reason Megatron almost always had crappy transformations whilst a lot of Decepticons were truly beastial! Scorponok, Overlord, Predaking, Six-Shot, Nemesis Prime, Tripredacus, Scourge, and the list goes on.

Regard the film being true to G1. I have no idea where you read this but I've read the first 5 pages of the script and it's pretty true to G1's intro so I can only say that for certain.

Regarding Michael Bay...imo he's one of the better young directors out there. He's known for Bad Boys 1+2, The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbour and most recently The Island.

All of the above mentioned films were sucsessful and received above average scores from imdb.com (6+ onwards) which we all know by imdb.com standards that's pretty danm good.

I have faith that Michael Bay will deliver us a solid Transformers Movie which will be respected by both fans of the franchise and new comers.

The only thing for certain is to wait and watch the movie ourselves and fuck reviews.

Many a time I've watched a film or played a game which had solid reviews by respectable sites/reviewers and I completely disliked the material.

BTW: This really made me happy today.
The Voice Actor for megatron has finally been chosen. It's Hugo Weaving (LOTR, The Matrix, V for Vendetta) mostly known as Agent Smith. Imo this is going to be gr8. I'm glad the original G1 Megatron voice actor didn't come aboard. Hugo Weaving will deliver us a better peformance for sure.

thrasher
25-03-2007, 01:14 PM
good choice for a voice actor, imo he is a very flexible actor when it comes to those roles and he should fit the role perfectly and regarding the movie, true it may be too overhyped and only lead to dissapointmaent, but michael bay has had many a great film so i have confidence in his direction

1st Film Review; (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Dome22 goes absolutely bananas over teh Bay's TRANSFORMERS!

Hey folks, Harry here with an early peek at TRANSFORMERS - and daaaaamn I can't wait to see this. Picked up an Optimus voice changing helmet... fantastic for webcam sex chats! Anyways - here ya go... beware of tiny spoilers and some encouraging enthusiasm. Here ya go...
Hi Harry,

You don’t know me, but I know you. I’ve previously submitted a review for ‘The Host’ (under the mock-goth pseudonym Womb2Doom which I don’t like anymore, fuck you very much) but you greedily kept it to yourself. Whatever

I attended the “world premiere” (in Sydney, Australia – the exclusive owners of the McOz burger) of Transformers last night with Michael “Do You Have It In Flames” Bay in attendance. He explained that he’d just finished the movie “19 minutes ago” and that we were the first audience to see the final film.

Quick background; I have fond affection for the Transformers cartoon but do not remember much about the series except the broad basics (they transform). I immensely enjoy Michael Bay films as I understand that they’re not going to shine me the right way or make me appreciate the elderly on all three levels. They are just there to make my dick harder for longer.

Which bring me to the following conclusion: those people out there who rued the day Michael Bay picked up directing duties for Transformers are idiots. Out and out fools. A flame on a once-flameless robot does not a bad movie make. Paul WS Anderson would have made this movie flameless and delivered a turgid pile of soggy salmon stool sample. There is NO OTHER director working today who could have provided the over-whelming spectacle that I witnessed last night. Exhilarating, and then some. This movie is exactly what a 2 hour live-action Transformers episode should be. In fact, I’m going to go as far as say that this is very possibly the best TV to big screen adaptation I can recall (having only recalled The Fugitive, Mission Impossible, The Mod Squad and Charlies Angels: Full Throttle). Transformers totally recaptures the euphoria of being 7 years old, sitting on the carpet in front of my old television set, TOTALLY engulfed by the awesomeness of fighting Transforming robots, neglecting my rice bubbles until they neither snap, crackle nor pop. Everything great about 80’s action cartoons from the action hero poses to the cheesy-fun good guy/bad guy back and fourths is here in hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades!

Before going into specific details about positives I shall address the “negatives” which are escorted here in inverted commas for the sheer fact that it never once hindered this experience for me. Now, some will claim that the first two are pretty big negatives but when you have giant robots dancing around said “negatives”, I raise my shoulders, close my eyes, turn my head slightly right and exclaim, “meh”;

1. First up, and this includes a detailed plot summary; I had NO IDEA what the hay was going on here. Ever. The whole movie. I looked around to my mates who had the exact same look on their faces – I don’t know what is going on but I am loving it so much the sides of my mouth will soon bleed from the smiling! I think it had something to do with a cube that may or may not be a bad influence on the XBOX 360 community.

2. Second “negative” was one of things that adversely affected the latter two of the threquel efforts this year – over-crowding. There is pretty much only two human leads in this movie but dozens of supporting players to drop bits of exposition in between the stomping and driving and giant smack downs. These characters are usually quirky, funny or unusual (Jon Voight’s secretary of Defence gives Harrison Ford’s Mr President a run for his money in the “useful” department) in any number of ways and most get their moment in the sun. This may be the first movie that Bernie Mac didn’t annoy me but this may also be the first movie he only had eight lines. There are way too many more to mention individually. John Turturro – “Criminal girls are HOT!” Thank you, Jesus.

3. One CG shot. Yep, I’m scraping the barrel. This CG man may have been pretty bad but once he gets flicked off screen I laughed and forgot my troubles with a big cup of warm smash-em-ups!

4. The small gremlin-bot. Stupid and pointless. My only true gripe about the whole movie.

Specific positives;

1. Michael Bay. I’m sure all the plot information was actually featured and repeat viewings would render my number one complaint redundant (except for Sector 7, the most powerful arm of the government that has no power) but this film moves with such g-force gusto, I couldn’t care less. This is the most fun I’ve had in a cinema without Paul Ruebens (I like to stay up to date)

2. The action. There are so many individual action set pieces I can’t and won’t tell you. EVERY SINGLE ONE of them is a winner, even the annoying gremlin-bot. The first time Barricade transforms on-screen brought the house down. This was early on and we were treated to many, many more structure descending moments

3. The Decepticons. These guys are just too school for cool! I was induced to several joygasms, specifically the first time they assemble as a team appearing on screen in radio communiqu announcing they are on the way with something like “Bonecrusher, en route!” (in alien transcribed-to-English subtitle). This was a toy commercial brought to lovely life. I love that at the end of this sequence they all announce “All hail Megatron!”

4. The end city based action sequences. Easily the best thing to appear on screen since three V-Rexs went primal a few years back.

5. The score. Steve Jablonsky delivered a thumping great score and is possibly the sole reason gremlin-bot is tolerable.

6. CG. Flawless in every respect (except for point 3 in the “negatives”). Michael has come a long way since the blurred pixels of Armageddon. I think the biggest compliment I can pay ILM for this is that not once during the movie did I stop and think “Wow, great CG!” It worked perfectly in hand with the story and action like it should. Very impressed!

7. Meagan Fox. Too sexy to continue typing with one hand.

8. Shia Le Beof. Great in the lead. Very funny, dramatically convincing and charismatic. He worked well to hold his own against his metallic co-stars.

I don’t want to over-sell this and come off all leafy but this, for me is an instant classic of mega-proportions (I just over-sold it, didn’t I?)! I just won’t believe that any true Transformers fan could sit through this and not be anything but blown anyway. This IS a Transformers movie!

Owejja posthuman! It's blasphemy not to watch such a film on the cinema. Imo ruins the first impressions ppl have specially when there's so much TOO REALISTIC CG involved.

i wasn't too impressed by the storyline. I saw it a bit childish maybe.

However the cgi was massive, and everything else was wicked. The opening scene was awesome! 9/10.

Avaloner

I did not really like it myself.

First and foremost the new design for the transformers did not impress me at all. It lost all of its Japanese Big Robot charm which was substituted for Western bombasticism. In the old versions it was fun that you could still see the various parts of the car in the robot version, for example the bonnet usually formed the robot's chest. None of that here. Also in the cartoons you could see where each part went in the transformation. In the movie there are so many minute parts moving about that it makes little sense.

Secondly I believe that the movie was aimed too much at the younger demographic. Too much humor and a love story which I would have not missed. I hated the scene where the Transformers had to keep hiding from Sam's father. It took precious screen time which could have been invested in giving the Autobots/Decepticon more personality. Also I felt John Turturro's performance was out of place. I love the actor ('Nobody f***s with the Jesus!') but he felt out of his depth here.

Some design decisions really bugged me. Why did the little robot which turned into a cassette player sound like a frikkin goblin? Why was Bumblebee forced to used the car radio for the great majority of the movie, making him very hard to comprehend and removing much of his personality? Why make a script where Megatron appears only in the last 25% of the movie and why kill him in such a lame way?

Finally: For the most parts the battles sucked. Everything seen up close in super blurry vision mode. So many times I wished the camera would just stop moving and shaking and maybe pan out a bit so I can get an idea what the hell was happening. It was hard to understand what the hell was going on. At times the CGI was amazing but that was the exception rather than the rule. And the vehicular form of the robots was grossly underused with mediocre car chases all around.

Just my 2c.

Cool robot? Yes! A transformer? Not really

not a transformer in the traditional sense that we all grew up with and loved. but seriously to get a modern day flick with the robots actually looking like the cartoons? it would have flopped.

and i beg to differ with you saying that you cannot see them as cars. you can, in fact, the design team actually hired the designers and engineers behind all of the cars/vehicles to see how every single component in the car can physically, in a modern world, be plausible, yet still blow ur socks off. which worked to wonders i might add.

it had the appeal to a much younger generation, as you well stated, yes. however, it had the appeal to the elder generation with the drop dead gorgeous cars (and i RARELY, actually, I've never said that about a modern American car), a quite stunning actress, and i know that most women enjoyed watching it with their bfs/husbands because of the entire formula.

how many women enjoyed watching the new Die Hard? None, actually, a lot of men were put off by it aswell (how the f*** dare they cut out YIPPE KAY EY MOTHERF***ER!)

face it, loved it or hated it, it had a damn good formula that worked wonders.

keep in mind that the old transfomers were drawn with a pencil, hence they had to make them easy to draw so children or not they were going to be simple designs

Avaloner
27-08-2007, 07:24 AM
I was not expecting them to be exactly like the old ones which were, after all, designed to appeal to children. But I think some middle ground between the extremely busy and complicated models and the old simple designs full of personality would have been preferable.

Also, I understand the point of having a movie which appeals to more people overall. It makes more money after all since more people go see it. But the parts which were added to appeal to the small kids, the girlfriends and most people who could not give a flying f**** about transformers really put me off. The trailer gave the impression that the movie was a modern reworking of the transformers franchise for the fans who have now grown up. Personally I think this movie failed to achieve that primarily because these are not the Transformers we know. Also the movie focused too much on humans, detracting a lot from the robot's personality.

To conclude... I did not hate it at all - there were some very good sequences (the first scene in which a transformer appears is awesome) but I wish I could have loved it more. To me, it was a very average flick.

I feel I must agree with Avaloner. The flaunting of the US Army and Pentagon was a bit too much in the face. The transformation where a boast of CGI... on the edge of stupidity.

I mean, Optimus Prime takes ages to transform, whilst Starscream changes from plane to bot in split seconds as he ascends onto the bridge.

Yeah the bit of the hiding from parents was off-putting and the radio-bot sneaking his way around as if its normal to have a sneaking robot, jut you don't want to see THAT robot sneaking around - was crappy

on the other hand the animations were great ... the battle in the desert as well as the slowmo somersaults whilst evading the Decepticon's missiles in the city were slick!

sphinx042
27-08-2007, 11:47 PM
agreed ... saw it recently myself! i loved it for its animation / creativity!...

like some of you said the story line could have been better it wasn't sucky just needed a bit of a tune up what put meh off was the secret agency s7 or whatever! the name! i forgot... i loved the robots even if they where diff from the original (spielberg's production gotta be awsome :p) ne ways also the one scene in the backyard! was a bit stupid also...

loved the little CDPLAYER robot haha funny bot imo!

i give it 8.5/10
