Anyone knows of some 2nd hand dealer selling some cheap shit without ripping you off?
Finally the time has come to buy my vehicle and all I'm going for is price. As long as its cheap & not petrol hungry, its good.
Obviously it shouldn't be falling apart, but it could like an asshole for all i care! =)
Also, what else must I look at when buying my vehicle? -.-
thx

I'm back guys ... Sorry to re-reply this topic after so much time...
Cow, 1st of all Fiat Uno r0x... especially the Uno Fire ones.
imo if you have a budget of lm1500 it's better to buy a car lm600-1000 (i suggest an Uno) and spend the remaining on sound than buying a lm1500 car. (i suggest AutoRay at San Gwann for best prices + always go for kenwood)
To search for cars I suggest Teledeal (dealers + used cars) and visit www.autodealermalta.com if u want to deal with dealers :D

uber :d0h::bang: :bang:
anyway, i don't think i'll be getting it anytime soon. I was seeing for a Ford Fiesta 2nd hand, the insurance of Lm280 a year is too much. :/
best shot is a mini, insurance of roughly Lm80 but until I find that mini, i wont b driving! :'(
btw, VW Camper for the win! :@

I saw everyone against french cars! its true most of them suck but there are models that are are very cheap and economical more than the fiat uno! the fiat uno would be a great deal but there are others!
I bought my peugeot 309 for Lm1000, very good condition with a/c, central looking practically all the extras and never had any trouble ( kelli wahd il bib ma tinfetahx , tort ta central lock, lol :p).
The insurance its quite expensive imma mhemmx xtamel hux, thallsa jkolok :)

:bang: :bang: OMG i just wanted to make a point here. That it's better to keep the lm500 for something else (if u have a budget of lm1500) and buy a lm1000 car rather than buy a lm1500 car.
and btw i don't own a car yet so stop imagining.

Yea i agree not to spend all your budget i prefere keeping a little ammount of money for future mods etc. And btw cow try to check the car inside out cause second hands may look nice and bright but will have shit inside! Imho you should try to avoid the dealers to have a lower price. Btw what do you think about a VW golf mark 2?

Thanks Flash. That's what I tried to say.
Energizer.... ffs what does a BMW or Jaguar have to do with a Toyota Celica? A toyota celica might cost around lm10000 and a jaguar might cost around lm20000. So what's the point??
What we were saying consisted of a lm500 difference. not twice the amount

ye but then a bmw will cost you the triple or more of what a toyota would
go try and buy an m6 ... heh well if i had the money of course i would aha but wait!
the M6 might have 501bhp and onboard computers but tests have shown that it only utilizes 300bhp on the road and the other 200bhp? on the computers? every car has its fault u need to know what to pick
for example then again a Vaux Monaro VXR handles like Awesomeness etc,
car world = vast
and just for your info Toyota are good cars
it's the malaysian and korean cars u should stay away from like KIA, Hyundai etc
tha main jap brands like toyota, mitsu, honda, nissan etc are good

27-03-2007, 10:37 AM
if you are buying from a dealer then probably yes :)
IF not, phone a dealer - pretend you have one for sale and see what he offers for it :)
As far as car makes:
Get a german car for luxury and smoothness
Get an italian care for nice design but which will break
and Get a Toyota (most japs but toy are best) which is a good car which will never break if you take care of it

i had a punto mk2 (2000)....
Those cars are made from recycled washing machines but they make good 1st cars:
- Parts are much cheaper than almost any other brand
- Parts are always in stock (imnalla coz you'll need them :P)
- Fiat are very easy to sell and ironically keep their value quite well:
I bought mine for 5400 and didmaybe lm 300 worth of customisations (basic stereo + alloys). Sold it for 3350 with some small daqqiet 4yrs old. Also i sold it in 1 day coz the advert came out 2 wks late in the paper and then day after i was due to pick up the new one so was telling people tipo "come, see it but you have to give me an answer + deposit today". 4 people came, and i sold it by 6pm.
We have a mk1 punto at work - i would strongly reccomend you keep some money to put in better + fatter tyres since their roadholding, especially in the wet is a disaster.

personally if u dont spend enough money on a 2nd hand car ur in for more trouble than buying a more expensive one...
and seriously about the mods... making mods on a shabby car is just sick lol

suzuki parts, although harder to find since it's not such a big car in malta, are quite cheap, and trouble frequency is low.
there are a few rental companies in malta who have them, and considering the butchering rental cars get, they hardly give probs.

petrol compsumption looks awry in this thread
for the record the toyotas are rather economic, but the RS version is not.
For the record, a toyota vitz .9 consumes about 7-10Lm weekly for 1 trip from south to qormi, and a starlet 15 diesel consumes roughly the same

Im no professional but my cousin has one. He spends the 20-25 euros a week to go to university and back home daily and maybe to pv on saturdays, etc.
As for finding second hand cars, I know theres a magazine(you have to buy a bundle for this one) which comes out every fortnight where there are second hand cars which you can buy directly from the owners. If you ask at a stationery they'll probably tell you.
opel corsa bubble are very good cars. in looks (cute) comfort and engines are isuzus as far as i know. dont get a diesel one(qas naf emx tbh). the petrol one has just a nice balance between power and economy. a very well made car if u ask me, infatti rari tara xi wahda taqa bicciet jew merrijja bis sadid. two thumbs up

As an Opel Corsa owner, I can recommend the car! I bought mine for Lm1,200 but it's a 95 and it needed some repairs. Make sure you take a mechanic with you when you buy your car.
The opel corsa are the best for that price. They can be modified in any way (if you like modifying), they're very nice cars, comfortable, and if you find a 97-00 model you can easily get a/c, e/w, e/m, etc... As for petrol consumption, it depends on how much you push your gas pedal. I mean the car, even though it's just 1.2L, it runs fast. With 1.2 you can easily hit the 150km/h. If you drive slow, you save money, but if you decide to hit the gas pedal hard prepare some cash. I spend EUR20 per 5 days but considering the distance I cover and the speed I reach, it's worth it.
About the Isuzu thing, only the diesel engines are Isuzu afaik. Mine for sure is Vauxhall (which is the same as Opel). Good luck for purchasing your Corsa ;) Join the corsa club! :)

There are rumors that the registration tax, if removed may be replaced with a yearly 'eco' tax. so try get a car which is as economical & ecological as possible.
For this reason stay away from any car which has/uses the isuzu diesel (like the gemini).

Golf 1.6 here, and i use 50euros every 3 weeks qisu, but i use it a lot and am usually late so i drive fast. Last i calculated it gave 30mpg which is decent at best... cant beat toyotas for efficiency. My gf's Aygo runs with just the smell of petrol - brilliant car/engine.
Btw anyone want to buy a Golf mk5 ? :P

keeping low gears will consume more fuel than keeping the car on higher gears (4/5)

as far as i know, engine strain (kemm qed tbati il makna) effects fuel consumption as well so at times keeping low RPM on a hill might waste more petrol than if you increase the RPM a bit and give the engine more torque. (this is what i found when i was playing with the fuel economy meter on a rental car)

there is a range in 5th gear where the car uses the least fuel.
i think its 50mph in 5th gear thats when the engine uses least fuel. most fuel is used to make the car start rolling again for example in traffic jams

not lower than 1500 rpm ok? :P
then its common sense not letting the car strain itself for hills
