Clint Eastwood embarked on an original idea to release two movies simultaneously which concern the same story : the Battle of Iwo Jima, yet the movies are from different perspectives.

Flags of Our fathers is from the american's perspective while Letters from Iwo Jima is from the Japanese perspective.

Flags of Our fathers was released last month in the US, and Letters from Iwo Jima will be released December 20th in the USA.

Both movies have good reviews..... hope they hit the local cinemas soon ! Seems to be a must watch fro WW2 movie fans.

Letters from Iwo Jima just topped LA Awards : Awards (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6168125.stm)

I'm not watching Flags of our fathers on its own. Those movies are to be watched one after the other, so until i see some dvdr of letters from iwo jima, i'll abstain :p

seen flags of our fathers yesterday ,

tbh i expected something more.

First of all the back and forth structure of the story, diminishes the dramatic impact of the film. It skipped around too much and I did not get hold of who the characters are. Kind of there was a point when they were sobbing because Franklin died... who is Franklin ?

the movie does not really give the viewer a chance to get to know the soldiers, making their death-sadly- seem less significant.

Also, I did not enjoy the fighting scenes so much either. Not bad, but mediocre.

The most thing that bothered me, is that the scenery background of the battlefield, was so artificial, it felt like obvious cgi! Am I the only one to have felt it like that?

Unfortunately, I cannot agree with the high ratings of this movie. I think that this movie got high ratings simply because it is directed by Clint Eastwood. This movie did not manage to absorb me. Maybe I need to see it for a 2nd time... dunno
