Sony finally announced the release date for PlayStation 3 in Europe: it has been scheduled to March 23, which means something like 2 more months of waiting. A million units are being forecast for all of Europe to cover whats sure to be a hectic launch period. For everyone who manages to secure one of these first machines, there will be 30 software titles to choose from within the launch period (this can mean several months). There will be two models of PS3 available: the one with 60 GB drive for 425 and then also cheaper one with 20 GB storage. Prices for the rest of Europe will be similar, at 599 for 60 GB model. If you convert this to US dollars, you get to the sum of something like $800, which is still VERY overpriced against common US retail price of $600.
No false starts for the PlayStation Network; this will be up and running from day one with the much vaunted demo of Gran Turismo HD Concept to download alongside a demo of Tekken: Dark Resurrection. PlayStation Network will also be geared up to cater for more casual players with a coffee-break roster that includes Go! Sudoku, Go! Puzzle, and arcade style action in the form of Blast Factor and flow. An extra treat, if you can call it that, will be a new System Update as soon as you join PlayStation Network for the first time.

Hooray...not.
Well if you have money to burn then the release date is 23rd March. its a grossly expensive machine. Consider you will go near the Lm400 mark to get a game and an extra controller with the 60gb version. And still to date there are very few games which are must haves on the console.
Ps: This should have been posted in the consoles sections.

Not all are confirmed for launch mind you. Out of the list RFoM, Motorstorm and Virtua Fighter 5 are the only hot titles. The others are either quite old, exist on the 360 or are generally crap.
PS: Sony is releasing Untold Legends not EA

yeah resistance may be the only one there that might be worth it i guess. motorstorm until now was buggy as hell, not even managing to reach a smooth 60fps, it doesn't even run at 1080p

only virtua fighter 5 looks good to me. and that's coming out on the 360 in summer.
obviously resistance is a great game, but nowhere close a good reason to burn Lm400 on.

yeah but it still looks like a solid game, with some cool weapons.
but like i said, wayyyyyy too little to justify Lm400.

My last console was Playstation 1 as i was interested more in pc games. Im really looking forward o buy a console but sure i wont go for the playstation 3, although it looks tempting.
Do you think Xbox will have a newer version or something by the end of next summer?
V0rteX
27-01-2007, 01:41 PM
yeah, basically it will consist of a newer cpu that emits less head and an hdmi port.
dunno exectly when it will be launched, cause lately thay had some delays from the cpu manufacturers.
but as regards to cpu and vga power it will remain the same.
some info about it: http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/05/the-second-xbox-360-revealed-codename-zephyr/

Yes i heard bout it Vortex!
Is there going to be a NEW Xbox or do we have to wait another 2 years. I know that the Xbox360 is good and games are nice but its 1 and a half years old.
Dont know but i will ask at the end of summer cause i will surely by a console :)

nah, not this year surely (not even the year after i suppost)
Baegun

there will not really be a new version of xbox 360 as such.
yes, there will be an updated model, with:
1) cooler CPU (nice thing)
2) HDMI port (basically just to compete directly with ps3. component is more than enough for now.)
3) the most important thing... a bigger hard drive.
the current hard drive is 20gig. i have only used around 2 gig on it, if not less. so it's not really an issue of storage space at this point.
the reason they need this hard disk is for downloadable full length HD movies, and IPTV (high def quality tv over internet). however, these will probably not be supported in europe for a long time, if ever, as we see with the downloadable movies.
in my opinion, there is no reason to wait at the moment.

Not that pricey.. you will need at least one game and a second controller which will bump the price over the Lm320 range. For a gimped version of the console I believe that is a bit pricey.

27-01-2007, 04:44 PM
I think a price ranging from Lm150 to Lm180 maximum is a good price for a console. One has to remember that you will have no trouble with games not like pc, update this and that. With that price range i think i will buy one after the summer(earned some money:))
If the newer version of Xbox is pricey i will go for the old version. All games work on the old one so better spend the difference on games.

Nothing has been confirmed on the new version except that it will have a smaller and cooler CPU (meaning that if they decide to do a new box it will probably be smaller in size). The hardisk size and HDMI ports while extremely sensible propositions, are not yet confirmed by Microsoft. I am expecting to see a revision of the 360 after summer, but do not hold your breath.

well its not realy a good deal. lm30 is nothing when you consider the price its being sold at, you`ll be able to purchase 1 game(ps3) for the exchange of ps2 and thats if they are lm30. afaik they are worth lm40
but if your not goign to use ps2 might aswell get rid of it, it will only gather dust

New PlayStation 3 firmware upscales to 1080p
Sony has announced details of tomorrows 1.80 PlayStation 3 firmware update. Tomorrow the latest PlayStation 3 firmware goes live. Version 1.80 features upscaling of PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and DVD movies up to 1080p HD resolutions. Its great news for those of us wanting to play GT4 on PS3, however the upscaling feature is only available via HDMI. Youll also be able to use a home network to view and play media content such as images, music and video on stored on DLNA3 enabled devices such as PCs and laptops.
The firmware update will also allow you to enjoy Remote Play between your PSP and PS3 via the internet, this will require PSP update 3.50 released towards the end of May. Version 1.80 also allows you to print photos stored on PS3 or storage media to a selection of Epson printers. Youll be able to download firmware 1.80 later today.

Sony Corp., the worlds biggest game-console maker, surprised the industry by cutting the price of the PlayStation 3 in the U.S. by 100 dollars, or 17 percent, responding to the widening lead of Nintendo Co.s Wii and Microsoft Corp.s Xbox 360. Starting Monday, the current 60 gigabyte model will cost 499 dollars, down from 599, in an effort to spur sales of the struggling video game console. The announcement came two days before the E3 Media & Business Summit in Santa Monica, California, where dozens of Sony rivals Microsoft Corp. and Nintendo Co. were expected to show off their latest games and related products.
The price cut is part of the companys upcoming strategy of eventually offering downloaded high-definition movies, video games, movie trailers and demos, Sony spokesman David Karraker said. Karraker said Sony would use the E3 show to focus on two areas: ways to increase the number of consumers who own PS3s and other products such as the PlayStation Portable handheld system, and expanding the systems library of available games. In April, Microsoft began selling a version of its Xbox 360 with a 120-gigabyte hard drive and a souped up high-definition video connection. Called Xbox 360 Elite, the black-colored system sells for 479.99 dollars.

Strange that they cut the price when just 5 days before an official statement said that there were no plans to make such a cut. Anyways, price cuts are always good news. There will be an 80Gb version of the console too btw.

Big sale boost for PlayStation 3 in June
Sales of Sonys PlayStation 3 (PS3) console in the US rose by 21% in June, analyst figures show, but the machine still trails the Wii and Xbox 360. Tracking firm NPD Group reported that 98,500 PS3s were sold, compared to 198,400 Xbox 360s (up 28%) and 381,800 Wiis (up 13%). Sony said that the $100 price cut to the 60GB PS3 led to a 135% sales rise over the last two weeks. Independent figures for sales of the cheaper PS3 are not yet available. This jump in sales bodes very well for us heading into the fall as we launch an impressive arsenal of hardware and software, Jack Tretton, head of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said in a statement.
Nintendos DS handheld sold 561,900 units , while Sonys PSP, which has been boosted by an April price cut, sold 230,100 units, NPD reported. Software sales in the US are 31% higher than the same time last year, the market research showed. The industry continues to realise substantial gains, month after month, and on all fronts its great growth, NPD analyst Anita Frazier told Reuters news agency. Nintendo said the sales showed that the firm was reaching a new gaming audience. Money talk Sony, we told you!
