As usual instead of deleting offending posts we play second fiddle to the persons who hijacked the thread in the first place. But let me be positive about it -

No, its just that this topic has been raised many times in the past, most people agree but we get the same results.

If the thread is generating a discussion why close it? Who cares if it is off topic or not? Uninteresting threads die naturally, its the nature of the forum. If a thread goes on and on its because it is interesting - irrespective of whether it went off topic or not. Just delete (or edit - which is preferable) the posts of those who are being verbally abusive. I was a moderator for some time. Its really not that hard.

And I mean this purely as constructive criticism. Anyways had this argument before, I made my point so you can just close this thread as well.

first off i was being sarcastic and humourous about posthumans comment :D


avaloner , based on your good comments and intellect and stuff the topic in question was about smoking which in fact i opened so that we can have a decent discussion about the pros and cons , the good and bad , the benefits and damage etc . i actually was expecting it to turn out into a decent intelligent discussion but from fags it went completely off topic to wow .

if the WOW topic interests you that much i suggest you open a new thread. .

regarding the off topic posts , some of the threads gradually fall off topic in a span of 10 posts or more so basically deleting ten posts to stick to topic is useless . then its again sent off topic with comments such as " where did my post go" or " why was my post deleted?"

As I said editing posts is preferable to deleting them. By editing I mean removing offensive material ('fuck you' and silly stuff like that to give a simple example). What I tried to explain though was that, going off topic should not really be regarded as something 'bad'. If the original topic is interesting people will stick to it (not saying the original topic was not interesting here, just it veered into a more heated topic). Even if a thread is not following its original topic it can still be interesting to the people participating in it and closing it will cut the discussion short.

Moderators also have the ability of of splitting threads and merging threads. So if a thread goes off topic after post 10 then post 11 onwards would be transfered to a new topic.

I do not want to discuss WoW really and generally I try to keep on topic as much as possible. But when someone insults you by saying you 'need a life' then I have to put my argument forward.
