Ship with 66 illegal immigrants on the way to our shores as we speak.
the first one this summer.

The thing about this one is that these were picked up by a Maltese patrol boat just 24 miles off Lampedusa (I think it's about 100-150 miles away from Maltese shores.
Now why would a Maltese patrol boat be so far off away operating in Italian waters? This is why :
Note: The pink box represents Malta's SAR region, that means that the Maltese Armed Forces operate the search and rescue operations in that massive area.
The X symbols in this map represent search and rescue cases coordinated by the Armed Forces of Malta.
On the other hand, international laws state that rescued migrants should be disembarked in the closest safe port, i.e. in this case Lampedusa, but again the Italian government refused entry and we, as the famous pussies we are, accepted the migrants, showing Italy that we are easily intimidated.
If a solution is not found fast and no action is taken, we will soon end up as the first dumping place of African immigrants, and as anyone can see the burden sharing we agreed with years ago has only managed to shove a tight pole up our arses.

saying that the italians are scaring the maltese is far from it, it was just a payback on one case they had a few weeks/months ago, a boat that had 100+ illegal immigrants wasn't being accepted to be saved by the maltese neither the italians eventually "Le Iene" went on the secene and after a few hours you see the italian coast gaurd coming to check and eventually save the immigrants. so i think it was more of a payback

great 832 so far, and the weather has been anything but nice in these last months. Makes me wonder what will the number be as soon as calm weather hits the islands.
To be honest, I think we need more politicians with the ideologies of the Lega Nord's likes. Fuori I Klandestini says Lega Nord, why don't we?

thing is , the minister of justice antoine mifsud bonnici has worked really hard on the recent lampedusa incident, and after all that work trying to keep an agreement, the Government accepted yesterdays 66 immigrants without any fuss, which by maritime law they had no right to send them to malta because they were 4 times closer to italian waters.
But this is Malta, and besides its a discussion ux, people talk/discuss.

those 66 migrants are nothing compared to the next migrants our government will accept in the future.
By accepting these 66 immigrants, we showed Italy and the EU that we would gladly accept "burden sharing" even if it means that the burden is only shared between us Maltese citizens.

Apart from all the space they're taking up, and the fact that they make Malta an unsafe place to live in, if swine flu hits Africa, you can be sure it will infect every person there. So if we don't get it from tourists, we'll get it from them.

I think it's about time we stop talking about figures and talk about facts.
Fact 1 : Italy was one of the European countries to drain Africa's rich resources. It was one of the countries to destroy Africa's economy, fucking the place up, now it's their turn to take all this shit, not us.
Fact 2 : The Italian Foreign Minister Maroni is a member of the Lega Nord political party. This party happens to be a far-right party whose only beliefs and motives are either racist or fascist. Hence this Maroni is nothing but a big mouthed bully who is currently bullying us into submission. Just to confirm my statement, Maroni doesn't even help Lampedusa by taking migrants into inland Italy, so no wonder that he is trying to push them to Malta now.
Fact 3 : As I said before, International laws state that saved immigrants must be landed in the nearest safe port, which on most cases happens to be Lampedusa but nearly always ends up to be Malta, thus breaking International Laws.
Fact 4 : Malta cannot hold anymore migrants. If Italy doesn't want them then we won't take them either. These immigrants are nothing but pawns used by Libya, then we should just treat them that way. If the EU really cares about saving human lives, then it surely won't be a problem for us to stop letting in the illegals.
P.S. - Regarding the formal letter the Government has sent to the Italian Gov; action speaks louder then words Dr. gonzi, so do something about it.

no one's a god... and no, we do note want those times back now, surely not, we did move on forward as a country, but with some issues we haven't at the moment, and most likely we tend not to do anything about that...
on the other hand, mintoff has brought us on our feet, and i do believe that it happened as a country, even though some of the poeple didnt agree with mintoff, and today, in this present day, we need to move together as a country, at least to prevent these illegal immigrants from taking over....

also if malta fights with italy, malta has a big problem, italy is the closest country that can offer support military wise and health wise so striclty speaking the backfire would be to harsh for malta to handle incase of a real need and that would force them to accept any deals they are given just to get help

Hope this is the first trigger of a larger operation

Yep indeed, but there goes the Italian-Libya agreement ( i think it was held a year ago). Italy had admitted of causing economic damage to Libya during the 1911-1943 colonial era, and agreed to pay a total of $ 5 billion in 'damages' to Libya. Hence Libya will take the money and probably get on with this, or atleast I hope.
The only problem is that NGO's like Medicenes Sans Frontieres, Jesuits, Amnesty International etc...will always stick their noses in between saying that these people need help and what not. Thing is that most of these NGO's ( except for the nagging Jesuits ) are supported mainly from countries like Germany and France, where they do not face the problem of having ILLEGAL immigrants coming in by boats every week. Hence, Italy and Malta, being the two european countries who are greatly effected by this invasion, should not fight against each other on who gets to shelter money-leechers, but rather working together on deporting their arses back to where they came from i.e. Libya.

Ideally the EU should do what president Lincoln partly did.
Colonize a piece of afrika in which to move all the immigrants in, (his plan was for the blacks) like that immediate repatriation can be conducted and the immigrants dont risk persecution.
Of course it would never happen because taking a piece of Africa is a big no no.
