    The Book of Eli

    Released: 2010

    Genre: Drama / Action

    Directed by: Hughes Brothers

    Starring: Denzel Washington; Gary Oldman

Plot: A tale set in the not-too-distant-post-apocalyptic-future, where a man (Denzel Washington) commits himself to protecting a book that he believes is important in saving manking and preserving humanity. America is a wasteland, with only remenants of civilisation and war, and this man must make his way through it in order to survive, and complete his mission.

Review: I really loved watching this movie. One of the things that immediately struck me was that it has amazing cinematography. Camera angles, colour saturation (or lack there-of) and ambience all help to set and put you into that post-apocalyptic, desolate mood.

Secondly, both main actors did a great job in portraying their characters. Gary Oldman was a great choice for the bad guy in this movie. Denzel Washington obviously did a superb job at playing the main character. When both characters collide, the dialogue, although not long, is very powerful. Another minor role is played by Mila Kunis. Other than her looks, I didn't like the character much, perhaps both because of Mila Kunis's portrayal of her and the general character build-up. Can't reveal much about her though, as I don't want to spoil the plot of how she comes into play.

Thirdly, the story itself. Throughout the movie, you don't really see the story as progressing anywhere - just a man making his way through a seered and desolate land, trying to survive and continue his mission. Still, this doesn't make the movie boring or pointless in anyway. The man's mission is important to him, and to Gary Oldman's character later on as the story progresses. All scenes are strong. The action is short, sudden, quick and powerful, and makes you sit at the edge of your seat. Some unexpected humour is also thrown in, which contrasts perfectly with the quiet and drab feel of the scene it's in.

    Personal Score: 8.5/10
